This dimension is measured between the interior attachment points of the spring bar housings and represents the compatibility standard for all aftermarket straps designed for this model. To verify, insert a digital calliper between the two upper attachments: the reading must be exactly 22mm.

We recommend a Tuscan leather strap tanned using vegetable tannage in honey or cognac tones, which complements the brushed stainless steel without compromise on durability. Should you use the watch frequently in water, opt for a NATO strap in woven nylon or vulcanised FKM rubber: both offer superior chlorine and salt resistance, with immediate drying times. Avoid non-vegetable tanned leathers in aquatic environments, as chemical treatments do not guarantee equivalent longevity.

The procedure is straightforward: locate the spring bars (small pins) protruding from the lug attachments on either side of the case. Using a spring bar tool, gently compress the pin and slide it laterally to release the installed strap. Align the new strap's holes with the lug openings, position the spring bar into one hole, and compress the tool until you hear a click. Repeat on the opposite side. Never force: the spring bar should enter with moderate pressure.

Any strap with a 22mm lug width is compatible with the Prospex SRPB49. Options include natural leathers (calf, alligator, shell cordovan), NATO in nylon textile, FKM/vulcanised silicone rubber, and suede. Always verify that the strap is manufactured for 22mm; compatibility errors are rare if you check the manufacturer's specifications before purchase.

A vegetable-tanned leather strap on the Prospex SRPB49, with ordinary maintenance (monthly cleaning, conditioning every 6–8 weeks), typically lasts 5–7 years before showing evident wear. Longevity depends on usage frequency, exposure to humidity and perspiration, and the specific leather type. Shell cordovan, being denser and oilier, may last up to 10 years. If the watch undergoes frequent immersion in fresh or salt water, consider rubber or NATO straps: leather is not recommended in such scenarios beyond 2–3 years of intensive use.
