Frequently asked questions
What is the lug width of the Seiko Prospex Divers SRPA21?
The Seiko Prospex Divers SRPA21 features a lug width of 22 millimetres. This constructive standard is consistent across all examples in the Save The Ocean series. To verify compatibility, measure the distance between the lateral lugs of the case with a digital calliper: the result should fall between 21.8 and 22.2 millimetres.
Which strap is most suitable for the Prospex Divers SRPA21?
The Prospex Divers SRPA21 pairs ideally with three categories of compatible 22mm straps: alligator or vegetable-tanned calf for formal and daily wear, NATO webbing in regenerated synthetic fibre for actual underwater applications, ergonomic rubber for prolonged sporting use. Your choice depends on balancing aesthetic sophistication with environmental functionality.
How do you change a strap on a 22mm lug width watch?
Remove the watch from your wrist. Position it with the caseback facing upward, so the lugs protrude slightly. Use a spring bar tool to exert pressure on one side of the internal spring, gently lifting the end of the previous strap. Repeat on the other side. Insert the new strap by aligning the hole with the lug, then press the spring bar until it clicks into place. Verify the securing by gently tugging the strap.
Are aftermarket straps compatible with the SRPA21?
Yes, provided they respect the 22-millimetre lug width specification. Compatibility concerns only nominal width; we recommend verifying the passant thickness and construction to ensure optimal retention on the case. High-quality artisanal straps in leather, NATO, and rubber are fully compatible and often enhance comfort and aesthetics compared to original equipment.
How long does a leather strap last on a dive watch like the Prospex?
A high-quality artisanal leather strap, if subjected to frequent saltwater contact or immersion, has an estimated lifespan of 12–18 months. Vegetable tanning, whilst noble, fears prolonged saltwater exposure. For intensive marine applications, we recommend alternating leather straps with NATO webbing or rubber, or limiting leather use to terrestrial everyday wear whilst preserving the Prospex with elastomers during underwater excursions.
