Frequently asked questions
What is the lug width of the Nomos Glashütte Tangente 178?
The Nomos Glashütte Tangente 178 features 18-millimetre lugs. This is the standard width for the Tangente family and is measured internally, from the inner edge of one spring bar lug to the other. A 18mm strap fits directly into the lugs without any additional adapters or spacers.
Which strap should I choose for the Tangente 178?
Your choice depends on intended use and season. For formal wear, we recommend vegetable-tanned calf leather or Spanish alligator. For daily versatility, a cotton NATO strap or technical FKM rubber. The 178, being compact at 35mm, benefits from straps not exceeding 3–4mm thickness to preserve the visual proportions of the case.
How do I change the strap on the Nomos Glashütte Tangente 178?
The Tangente 178 uses standard spring bar lugs. With a small flathead screwdriver (2mm) or dedicated tool, insert the tip into the spring hole on the inner side of the lug. Press gently downward to release the first end, then remove the strap. Insert the new strap and press the spring until it clicks into place. Verify secure attachment on both sides.
Can I use an aftermarket strap compatible with the Tangente 178?
Yes, absolutely. Any strap with an 18-millimetre lug width is compatible. We recommend handcrafted straps that respect the compact case profile (maximum 4mm total thickness). Italian-made artisanal straps ensure superior durability and better spring bar longevity, avoiding premature lug wear.
How long does a leather strap last on the Tangente 178?
A quality leather strap, vegetable-tanned, typically lasts 3–5 years with daily wear. Longevity depends on climate, maintenance, and usage intensity. Leather treated regularly with neutral conditioning creams ages more elegantly and resists longer. The Tangente 178, being lightweight, places minimal stress on the strap, extending its service life considerably.
