Frequently asked questions
What is the lug width of the Laco Navy Watches 862021?
The lug width of the Laco 862021 is 18 millimetres. This measurement refers to the distance between the two internal metal pins on the case. To measure it correctly, place your calliper from the inner edge of the left pin to the inner edge of the right pin, excluding the case itself. This is the historical standard for German Navy Watches.
Which strap is best suited for the Laco Navy Watches 862021?
The ideal strap depends on your wearing style. For classical elegance, we recommend alligator leather or vegetable-tanned calf. If you prefer practicality and casual style, a NATO strap in woven polyamide is perfect. For humid environments or sporty use, choose FKM rubber with a steel deployant clasp. All these materials are available in 18mm size compatible with the 862021.
How do you change the strap on a Laco 862021?
The Laco 862021 is fitted with a removable strap using spring bars. To change it: obtain a spring bar tool or pin extractor; position the tip under one spring bar and push gently upwards to release it; remove the strap; align the pins of the new strap with the case lugs; push the spring bar back into place until it clicks. Repeat on the other side. Although a spring bar tool is not strictly necessary, it makes the operation much safer and more precise.
Is the Laco 862021 compatible with quality aftermarket straps?
Yes, entirely. The 862021 uses the universal 18mm lug width standard, so it accepts any quality aftermarket strap with the correct measurement. European artisanal brands of mid-to-high range typically offer excellent compatibility, impeccable finishing, and carefully selected leather. Aftermarket strap quality often surpasses the original, particularly regarding durability and patina development. Always verify that your strap features high-quality spring bars.
What is the lifespan of a leather strap for the Laco 862021?
A quality leather strap, worn daily, has an average lifespan of 3–5 years, depending on the material and care. Vegetable-tanned leather, if regularly conditioned with natural oils, can last 7–10 years whilst developing a beautiful patina. Alligator and cordovan are more resistant to wear and maintain their structure for 8–12 years. FKM rubber lasts 4–6 years without significant deterioration. Moreover, replacing an 18mm strap is simple and economical, allowing you to vary your style without constraints.
