The lug width of the Furlan Marri 1072-2 is 20 millimetres. This dimension corresponds to the distance between the spring bars that attach the strap to the case. You can verify this measurement manually by measuring with a ruler the width of the space between the two lugs on the case, at the upper or lower horn. Precise measurement is essential to ensure compatibility when purchasing a replacement strap.

The ideal material depends on intended use and aesthetic preference. For formal and urban elegance contexts, we recommend a tonal alligator strap (brown, navy blue, or black) with polished finish, ideally paired with a stainless steel deployante. For authentic sportive interpretation, vegetable-tanned shell cordovan develops natural patina over time, creating an aesthetic narrative parallel to the satinised case ageing. For environments with exposure to humidity, chlorine, or salt water, a vulcanised rubber or FKM silicone strap offers superior resistance and easy maintenance.

Strap replacement is accomplished via removal of the spring bars (elastic pins) connecting the strap to the case. Using a spring bar tool (available from watchmakers or online retailers), position yourself at the outer edge of the upper lug, gently press the tool inward to compress the pin spring, then slide the old strap laterally. Repeat the procedure for the lower lug. Installing the new strap follows the same process in reverse: align the strap holes with the pins and ensure the pin is fully seated in its receptacle.

Any strap with a 20mm lug width is compatible with the 1072-2 model. This includes straps in calf leather, alligator, shell cordovan, NATO fabrics, rubber, silicone, neoprene, and synthetic materials, provided they are fitted with standard spring bar holes of 20mm. We recommend always verifying technical specifications with the manufacturer, especially for straps with particular closure systems (integrated deployante, proprietary patents). The lifespan of a leather strap depends on material, tannage, daily use, and environmental exposure. A vegetable-tanned calf, in good maintenance conditions (not exposed to constant humidity, regularly cleaned), lasts approximately 3-5 years with daily wear. Alligator, being denser fibre, can reach 5-7 years. Shell cordovan, given its peculiar density, can exceed 8 years. The determining factor is wear of the adjustment hole near the buckle: once compromised, the strap requires re-perforation or replacement. We recommend alternating use (not wearing the same strap for more than 5 consecutive days) to distribute material wear.
