Frequently asked questions
What is the lug width of the Damasko Chronographs DC56?
The Damasko DC56 features a 20mm lug width, the classical standard for 40mm chronographs. This width is constructed with welded stainless steel spring bar attachments and ensures a balanced proportional relationship with the brushed case. Always verify the lug width before purchasing an aftermarket strap.
What is the best strap for the Damasko DC56?
Selection depends on use and context. For formal wear: alligator with vegetable tanning or Horween shell cordovan. For daily versatility: two-tone black-grey NATO. For sport and professional use: black FKM rubber. For aesthetic balance: brushed calf with satin-finished back reflecting the case grain texture.
How do you change a strap on a watch with 20mm lug width?
Obtain a Spring Bar Tool with interchangeable pins if necessary. Place the watch on a soft surface to prevent scratches. Use the small screwdriver end of the Spring Bar Tool to compress the lateral lug pins. Remove the old strap. Align the new pins into the lug holes. Press until the pins audibly click into position. Verify the strap is not twisted before wearing.
Is an aftermarket strap compatible with the original Damasko DC56?
Yes, any strap with 20mm lug width is mechanically compatible. However, to maximise aesthetic cohesion, we recommend materials that dialogue with the brushed stainless case: alligator with natural patina development, high-density NATO nylon, absolute black rubber, or calf leather with grain texture reflecting the steel finish.
How long does a leather strap last on a chronograph watch?
Durability depends on material and usage. Vegetable-tanned alligator: 5–8 years with daily wear, develops interesting patina. Shell cordovan: 8–12 years, exceptional durability. Standard calf: 3–5 years. NATO and rubber: 7–10 years. Exposure to perspiration, water and UV light shortens lifespan. We recommend periodic maintenance and rotating replacement straps.
