Set of two spring bars for Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34mm in yellow gold, in tempered Swiss Standard steel. Size: 19mm between lugs. Pin 1.8mm. Drilled lugs. Specification for OP 34 in 14kt gold or solid 18kt gold, widely diffused on the American market in the Fifties and Sixties — references such as 6634, 6566, 6664.
The OP 34 in 14kt gold is a little-known chapter of the Rolex line: produced primarily for the US market, where 14kt was preferred to European 18kt. Smaller 34mm case, 19mm drilled lugs, 1.8mm pin — the standard vintage specification of the line. These pieces arrive in Europe almost exclusively through collector acquisitions, but when they do, these are the right spring bars.

Are these spring bars suitable for steel OP 34 models or only gold?
Gold only. The 19mm lug-to-lug distance is specific to American and European gold OP 34 cases from the 1950s-1960s. Steel versions from the same period use different lugs. If unsure about your case, measure the distance between lug centers: it must be exactly 19mm.
Is the 1.8mm pin compatible with other brands or only Rolex?
The 1.8mm diameter is Swiss standard, not Rolex-exclusive, so technically compatible with other vintage cases featuring the same lug bore caliber. However, fit depends on the precise geometry of the lug: I recommend testing with a single bar first to verify tolerance on your piece.
Should I use them on a refinished OP 34, or only on originals with drilled lugs?
These work only if the lugs are drilled—that is their advantage. If your piece has been restored with soldered lugs, you cannot use them without modifying the case. If the original lugs are still drilled, these are the best choice: the 1.8mm pin delivers the most precise fit for that caliber.
How long do they last before degrading? Is Swiss tempered steel really more resistant?
When installed correctly, they last years without issues. Swiss Standard tempered steel is more resistant to fatigue and corrosion than common steel, but the real killer is installation: if you force or misalign them, they won’t last. Ensure the pin slides smoothly, without forcing.
