Handmade in Italy Selected leathers

Military green isn't for everyone. It's a deliberate choice, almost a silent declaration — and the caiman leather that bears it makes it even more striking.

The Caiman latirostris, the broad-snouted caiman, lives in the wetlands of South America: swamps, mangroves, and still waters of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. A select fauna, with a natural bony texture to its skin — irregular, asymmetrical, never uniform. The matte finish softens the contrast between the scales without diminishing their relief: the character remains intact.

The stitching is handmade, stitch by stitch, following the profile of the lugs. It's not just an aesthetic detail: it's structural. Every Casati Milano strap passes through an Italian workshop where the final form is decided during production, not before.

A necessary note: every leather is unique. The green you see in the images is a reference — the individual strap you receive will have its own nuances, its own scale pattern. It's part of the pact with a natural material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes caiman leather from alligator mississippiensis in terms of texture and appearance?

Caiman has a bony structure beneath the ventral scales — the so-called osteoderms — which gives the surface a more irregular and three-dimensional relief compared to classic alligator. The result is a more untamed, less geometric texture. Those seeking a strap with a more pronounced and less conventional visual character will find in caiman a precise answer.

Does the matte finish tend to polish with use or does it remain matte over time?

With daily wear and contact with the skin, the areas subject to greater friction — especially around the buckle and the lugs — may develop a slight burnished effect, more satin than glossy. This is a natural evolution of the material, not a defect. Those who prefer to preserve the matte finish can treat the strap with a specific colourless cream for reptile leathers with low wax content.

Which watches pair best with the 22mm × 18mm variant?

The 22mm × 18mm size is designed for medium-to-large case diameters: from 41mm upwards, with lugs that accept this width. It pairs well with classic sports watches such as the Longines HydroConquest, certain IWC Pilot references or entry-level Panerai models. The matte green works particularly well with dark dials — black, anthracite, forest green — where the caiman adds depth without competing.

Is each strap truly different from the next, or is the chromatic variation minimal?

The differences can be significant: the green of caiman is not a colour applied uniformly over a neutral base tone, but works on a leather already pigmented during the tanning phase. The result is that each strip carries with it nuances ranging from olive green to a warmer or cooler green. Milano Straps selects the hides for overall consistency, but the uniqueness of each piece is a structural characteristic of the product, not a variable to be corrected.
