26mm Straps — Alligator for Glashütte and Panerai

A 26mm lug width almost always comes on substantial cases, often over 42–44mm in diameter. It's a measurement the watch industry reserves for models built for a decisive wrist, where the strap needs to hold its own visually against the case without disappearing beneath it. On Glashütte Original and Panerai especially, a wide lug isn't a stylistic flourish—it serves to distribute tension better when the case is heavy, often solid steel or titanium.

Alligator behaves differently at this width compared to 20mm or 22mm. The exposed leather surface is larger, so the plates—those characteristic scales in the hide—become more prominent, and any cut quality or flaw reads clearer. That's why we choose full hides, without gluing or patching: on a wider surface, any seam would show.

Over time, pure alligator tends to dull slightly in flex points near the buckle, and darken slightly where it touches wrist skin. It's a natural process, not a defect: real leather ages, it doesn't stay frozen like certain synthetics. Someone wearing a 26mm strap for years will see it change alongside the watch, not stay static.
