The Heritage
The strap for this watch is made to measure
On the Patek Philippe Aquanaut the bracelet is drawn as part of the case: no catalogue strap will fit. In the atelier we take the measurements on the watch itself and build the strap on the piece — that is the work of Casati Milano.

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001?
No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case with a proprietary attachment: a traditional strap cannot be fitted in any conventional way. The only option for changing the strap on this model is to have one made to measure, working on the watch itself in the atelier.
How does the bespoke strap process work for the Aquanaut?
I work exclusively by appointment at Casati Milano, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, study the geometry of the case, and shape every connection by hand, directly against the octagonal bezel. There are no standard measurements to start from: every strap is built from scratch on that specific piece.
Which leather do you recommend for this model?
I recommend Mississippi alligator in graphite. The Aquanaut has a sporting character without giving up refinement, and that natural texture works well alongside the satin-finished steel of the case. I have seen honey Barenia pairings work beautifully over time, especially for those who wear the watch every day and want a patina that evolves with them.
How long does a well-made strap last on a watch like this?
With a top-quality leather and normal daily use, I count on five to eight years before the strap shows signs that justify a replacement. Care is straightforward: keep it away from prolonged exposure to water and let it air-dry after a demanding day. Alligator and Barenia do not age badly — quite the opposite, they develop a depth that new leather simply does not have.
When was the Aquanaut introduced, and what sets it apart from the Nautilus?
Patek Philippe introduced the Aquanaut in 1997, with the intention of creating a sporting watch with a more contemporary feel than the Nautilus. The embossed dial and the octagonal bezel with softer angles give it a different character: less formal, more direct. I have seen many clients at the bench choose it precisely because it carries the Patek name without the already well-worn story of its older sibling.
The next step
