The first thing we look at is the watch. Not the case diameter, not the lug width — those come later. We look at how the dial catches light, at the weight of the case on your wrist, at the way the original strap has worn down and where. Every detail speaks. We listen before we measure.
A bespoke watch strap made in Italy can mean many things. In our atelier on Via XX Settembre in Milano, it means one thing: a process that begins with your presence. We ask you to come in, sit down, and choose the leather from the hides we keep in house. No screen can replace what your fingers learn in thirty seconds of touching a full grain calfskin — the tension, the hand, the way it yields.
Leather is not a static material. A well-chosen skin ages alongside the watch it serves. Over months, it darkens slightly at the edges where your shirt cuff brushes against it. The surface takes on a patina that belongs only to your wrist, your climate, your life. After eighteen months of daily wear, the strap should look not older but more coherent — as though it had always been there.
This is what guides our selection of the leather: not beauty in the abstract, but behaviour over time. We work with French and Italian tanneries whose vegetable-tanned hides respond well to wear, to humidity, to the particular stress a watch strap endures at the folding point near the buckle.
Once the skin is chosen, over fifty passages shape it into a finished strap. Skiving, edge painting, hand-stitching with linen thread, the setting of the keeper, the final pressing. Each passage is a decision. The work is done entirely in our workshop, by the same hands from first cut to last stitch. Nothing is sent out.
The process takes four weeks. Not because we cannot work faster, but because certain adhesives need to cure, certain edges need to be revisited after a day of rest, and hand-stitching at six stitches per centimetre cannot be hurried without consequence.
