Chrome tanning that holds where vegetable tanning fails

Swift Calf leather comes from a calf with a Fleur finish — the natural grain of the leather, that surface layer that less patient tanners remove. The French technique used to treat it preserves that surface intact, then the tanning process does the rest: dimensional stability, water resistance superior to any vegetable leather. It's not a leather that demands special attention. It's a leather that works while you work.

To the touch, it is light, almost imperceptible. The surface is matte, with a slight irregularity that is felt more than seen. It withstands wrist moisture better than Barenia or vegetable leather. Superficial scratches are absorbed with a wipe of a cloth — nothing else is needed. The colors do not dramatically shift over time: they deepen, slowly, without transforming. Those looking for the amber patina of Barenia should look elsewhere. Those who wear their watch daily without wanting to worry about maintenance should look here.

Hermès has used it for its most iconic creations for decades. It's the same leather you find on certain Birkins. We use it for straps paired with Rolex, Omega, and Patek Philippe — three names that do not forgive incorrect leather.

How does Vitello Swift age?

Nobly. Without heavy chemical treatments, it develops a patina that tells the story of use. It doesn't yellow abruptly like other calfs, but takes on warmer, deeper tones. An IWC Pilot strap in Vitello Swift after three years is a completely transformed object—still soft, but with character imprinted on it. It's living leather, that breathes over time.

What size do you recommend for a Patek Philippe Aquanaut?

The Aquanaut requires 20mm, and Vitello Swift is a sophisticated choice. The softness compensates for the absence of a capotas, making it comfortable even on the most humid days—the leather breathes naturally.
