Cordovan 20mm — Aged Shell, scratch resistant

SIZE 20MM · CORDOVAN

20mm Shell Cordovan: the leather that stands the test of time

Cordovan is a fibrous layer measuring 30x15cm per horse, vegetable-tanned for six months. It doesn't scratch; it creases. The marks disappear with thumb pressure — the fibers realign. It's the most wear-resistant material we've worked with. Ten-year-old straps look like they're two years old.

At 20mm, it pairs well with vintage dress watches in natural cordovan, or tan brown on an Omega Speedmaster for contrast with the dial. Choose between Horween (matte, noticeable grain) and Shinki Hikaku (satin, mirrored finish). At Casati's workshop, by appointment, the strap is made for the watch, not in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Which 20mm watches are compatible with a Cordovan strap?

Patek Philippe 3970, Omega 1566.56.00, Tudor 79950. Also Wyler Vetta WV0600 and WV0601. Always check the lug width in your manual — 20mm is the standard width between the two lugs of the case.

Why choose Cordovan for a 20mm watch?

At 20mm cordovan shows its best: ideal thickness for vintage dress watches and tool watches. It does not scratch, ages with a patina, lasts decades. Natural for vintage, tan brown for modern contrast.

How do you measure the 20mm lug width to order the strap?

Measure the width between the two lugs of the case with a digital calliper — it must be 20mm. Also count the length: from end to end of the strap you are currently using. Send a photo of the watch and the measurements: I confirm before production.

How much does a 20mm Cordovan strap cost?

Cordovan 20mm from €120. The price depends on the choice of leather — Horween or Shinki — and the construction details. You pay for the six-month vegetable tanning.

Is it possible to order a made-to-measure 20mm Cordovan strap in the atelier?

Casati Milano receives by appointment at Via XX Settembre 15, Milan. The leather is chosen together — the strap is born on the watch, not before.
