Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Patek Philippe Nautilus 7118/1200R-010?

No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach an aftermarket strap. The connection point is proprietary, designed by Patek Philippe as an inseparable part of the case structure. If you want to wear this watch on leather, the only option is a fully bespoke strap built around the actual geometry of the case.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this Nautilus?

I only work on this model in the atelier, by appointment. At Casati Milano, I take measurements directly from the watch case itself — every curve and every angle of the attachment point is measured by hand before a single centimetre of leather is cut. There is no fixed template: each strap is built from scratch on that specific piece.

Which leather do I recommend for this rose gold Nautilus?

I choose Barenia with a honey patina, without hesitation. The warm tone of rose gold calls for a leather that ages towards amber and tobacco — Barenia does exactly that, and improves with the years rather than deteriorating. For a sportier character, Mississippi Alligator with an extra-large scale holds its own against the texture of the original without copying it.

How long does a well-made leather strap last on a watch like this?

With a top-quality leather and basic care — keeping it away from prolonged water exposure and occasionally applying a natural cream — I count on at least five or six years of regular use. Barenia in particular does not deteriorate: it transforms. After a few years it carries the marks of the person wearing it, and that makes it more interesting, not less.

The Nautilus was born as a sports watch — does it make sense to wear it on a leather strap?

Gérald Genta designed it in 1976 thinking of a steel watch that could be worn beyond the office. The rose gold version shifts the balance firmly towards elegance — and on leather, in my view, it finds its most natural dimension. It is not a concession to formality: it is choosing the material that speaks best to that colour and those 35.2 mm proportions.
