The Nautilus 7021/1R-001, seen from the bench

The Patek Philippe Nautilus 7021/1R-001 is a 33.6mm rose gold sports watch featuring the iconic octagonal case designed by Gérald Genta in 1976. This women's model combines the characteristic integrated lugs and guilloché dial with refined elegance. The case diameter is 33.60mm in 18kt rose gold, requiring custom strap solutions due to its integrated lug architecture.

Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Patek Philippe Nautilus 7021/1R-001?

No. The bracelet is integrated into the case and the attachment is proprietary: no off-the-shelf strap will fit. The only proper way to replace the bracelet on this model is to build the strap to measure, around the actual case. I do this in the atelier, after taking measurements directly from the watch.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this model?

I only work on this type of case through Casati Milano, by appointment, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements from the case itself and build the attachment around the real geometry — not from a drawing, not from a photograph. It is the only way to do the job properly on a piece like this.

Which leather do you recommend for the Nautilus 7021/1R-001 in rose gold?

On this model I prefer naturally aged Barenia. It has a compact texture that works well with the guilloché dial surface, and the colour develops over time, moving closer to the warm tones of the rose gold. Mississippi alligator with XL scale is equally valid for those who want a stronger contrast — but Barenia, on this watch, has a coherence I noticed years ago and have never questioned since.

How long does a well-made strap last?

With reasonable care — keeping it away from prolonged exposure to water, letting it breathe between wearings — a well-built strap lasts many years, often well over a decade. Barenia in particular improves with time: it absorbs the movement of the wrist and develops a personal patina no new leather can replicate. A well-worn strap says something; a badly worn one says only neglect.

What is the story behind the Nautilus octagonal case?

Gérald Genta drew the Nautilus in 1976, and the octagonal porthole shape was no accident: it was inspired by the watertight hatches of ships. It was a radical idea for a fine watchmaking piece — a sporting silhouette in gold. I have handled several examples over the years and that tension between formal strength and refined materials never stops striking me. The 7021/1R-001 carries that same logic forward in the 33.6 mm feminine version.
