The Nautilus 7021/1G-001, seen from the bench

Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Patek Philippe Nautilus 7021/1G-001?

No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there is no traditional lug to attach a standard strap. The fitting is proprietary, designed by Genta as an inseparable part of the original project. To work on this watch, I build every strap to measure, directly on the watch, in the atelier.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this Nautilus?

I work exclusively by appointment at Casati Milano, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case and shape every millimetre by hand. There are no templates: each strap is built from scratch on that specific piece.

Which leather do I recommend for a white gold Nautilus?

For this model I choose Barenia. It is a leather that ages with intelligence: it develops a progressive patina, adapts to the wrist and gains character with wear. On a white gold Nautilus — which has a sporting soul but an elegant presence — Barenia finds its natural balance without overpowering the case.

How long does a well-made artisan strap last?

A strap built with quality leather and hand-stitched easily lasts five to ten years, sometimes longer. It depends on how it is worn and how much care is given: avoid water, let it dry away from heat sources, rotate it with a second strap if worn frequently. Barenia, in particular, improves with time — I see it at the bench every season.

Is the Nautilus truly designed for someone who wants a sporting yet elegant watch?

Genta drew it in 1976 with a precise idea: a watch that could be worn at the seaside and at dinner. The porthole case in white gold of the 7021/1G-001 carries that philosophy into more precious territory without betraying it. It is not a compromise between two worlds — it is a clear statement of character, one I have seen work on very different wrists.
