Strap for Nautilus Travel Time Stainless Steel / Blue

Not in the traditional sense. The bracelet is integrated into the case: there are no standard lugs to attach a conventional strap. The only viable option is to build a bespoke attachment, shaped directly around the original case. That is what I do in the atelier, one piece at a time.

I work exclusively by appointment at <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements from the case itself, and build the attachment by hand, adapting it to the Nautilus geometry. There is no template: every strap is made from scratch for that specific piece.

For a watch with this character — sporty yet built with extraordinary technical refinement — I prefer large-scale Mississippi alligator. It holds up well with daily wear, ages with personality, and holds its own visually against the steel case without looking out of place. Barenia is a valid alternative for those who want something softer and more understated, but the large scale has a coherence on this model that I have come to appreciate over the years.

With regular use and a little care, five years is a reasonable minimum. Keep it away from prolonged water exposure and condition the leather occasionally with a suitable product. Alligator ages well: after a few years it develops a patina that tells the story of wear rather than hiding it. That is what separates quality leather from something that simply falls apart.

It carries a flyback chronograph with dual time zone: two complications coexisting in an octagonal case designed from the outset to be slim. Gérald Genta drew it in 1976 with sportiness in mind, and Patek kept pushing the mechanical complexity without ever betraying that geometry. I have seen many Nautilus references on the bench, but this 5990 has a density of functions you can sense just by holding it.
