Strap for Nautilus 5722G

The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. This is a deliberate design decision, not a limitation. At the atelier I build the attachment from scratch, working directly on the watch.

Everything goes through <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, by appointment only, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take the measurements directly from the white gold case, and shape every part of the attachment by hand. I do not work from photographs or measurements sent remotely — this kind of work requires the piece in front of me.

I prefer naturally aged Barenia. The Nautilus 5722G has a dual character — sporting in shape, refined in material — and Barenia follows it well in both directions. It develops a patina with wear, softens over time, and gains personality. It is a leather that does not shout, and on a watch like this that is the right choice.

With a quality leather and basic care, I count on at least five to seven years of regular use. The most common mistake is always using the same hole on the buckle: the leather dries out at a single point. I let the strap breathe, keep it away from water, and occasionally condition it with a neutral cream. Barenia ages in a way that makes you not want to replace it — it changes, but it improves.

In 1976, Gérald Genta took the shape of a ship's porthole and built a watch around it that refuses to be categorised. The white gold case of the 5722G-001 pushes that tension between sport and elegance even further. I have seen many watches at the bench with that same dual ambition — very few carry it off. The Nautilus does, because the proportion between case, bezel and bracelet is worked out to the last millimetre.
