No. The bracelet is integrated into the case: there is no standard lug to attach an off-the-shelf strap. The architecture was designed to work this way, and changing it requires bespoke work. In the atelier I build each attachment directly on the watch, adapting it to the original geometry of the case.

Everything goes through <a href="/pages/casati-booking">Casati Milano</a>, by appointment only, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench, take measurements directly from the case and build the attachment by hand, millimetre by millimetre. I do not work from photographs or specification sheets: I need the watch in front of me.

I prefer Barenia. The Nautilus is a sporting watch that wears formality well — it has character and does not need to be overwhelmed. Barenia starts flat and almost stiff, then softens with wear and develops a natural patina that tells the story of the person wearing it. It is the leather that ages best on a watch that is genuinely worn.

With quality leather and basic care, I count on at least five or six years of daily wear. Keep it away from prolonged contact with water and let it breathe — do not wear the same strap every single day. With Barenia, time works in your favour: scratches and marks are absorbed into the hide and become part of the strap's character.

The 5711/1A-010 was discontinued by Patek Philippe in 2021, and since then the secondary market has taken it to prices that have little to do with the watch itself. I have seen examples change hands at figures that are hard to justify rationally. That said, I understand the appeal: Gérald Genta's 1976 design still holds up today without showing its age, and that is no small thing.
