This measurement represents the internal distance between the two attachment pins (lugs) and is critical for ensuring compatibility with artisanal straps. To verify accurately, use a digital calliper measuring between the internal shoulders of the lugs: even a 0.5mm variation would cause instability or excessive tension when changing straps.

For constructive and aesthetic coherence with Hölstein philosophy, we recommend a strap in alligator or shell cordovan with vegetable tanning. Alligator creates visual continuity with the stainless steel case whilst developing natural patina over time. Shell cordovan offers superior compactness for intensive daily wear. Both maintain the minimalist sobriety characteristic of the Artelier. Valid alternatives include vegetable-tanned calf leather in cognac or dark brown tones, or a NATO strap in robust Cordura canvas with a steel deployante for summer use.

Strap replacement requires a specific tool (lug bar or spring bar removal tool). Position the watch in a protective holder, locate the attachment pins at the case extremities, gently insert the lug bar into the narrow slot between lug and case, then apply controlled downward pressure whilst pushing the pin laterally. Once the pin is extracted, the old strap separates from the case. Insert the new strap by aligning the holes with the lugs, then reinsert the pin until you feel tactile locking. Verify that the strap has no excessive play before wearing the watch.

All straps with a 21-millimetre lug width are technically compatible. We recommend exclusively artisanal leather straps of constructive quality equivalent to the watch itself: vegetable-tanned calf, alligator, shell cordovan, or NATO in robust canvas. Leather strap durability depends on tanning method, material, and intensity of wear. Alligator or shell cordovan with vegetable tanning maintains optimal structure for 8–12 months of constant daily use; thereafter the leather begins to show natural thinning in zones of maximum flexion (closure curves). Vegetable-tanned calf typically lasts 10–15 months under moderate wear conditions. Ageing does not represent deterioration: the developed patina (natural scratches, darkening) reflects the history of use and increases aesthetic authenticity. Maintenance (periodic cleaning with specialised products, drying after moisture contact) significantly extends strap functionality.
