The lug width of the Omega X-33 / Z-33 3990.50.36 is 20mm. This measurement is verified by inserting a digital caliper between the two lugs of the case, from inner wall to inner wall. It is a rare dimension in serial production, which is why finding quality straps often requires recourse to specialized artisans.

The ideal material depends on usage. Natural alligator offers aesthetic coherence with titanium and natural patina over time. Vegetable-tanned calf provides superior comfort and breathability in temperate climates. A grey NATO strap recalls the historical space heritage. For aquatic environments, FKM rubber is the tactical choice. A deployment clasp in titanium or satin steel completes the project while maintaining the watch's technical DNA.

The X-33 / Z-33 uses standard 20mm spring bars (compatible with 20mm lugs). For changing: position the watch on a stable support, use a spring bar tool to compress the internal spring and slide the old strap from one lug at a time. Align the holes of the new lug with the spring bars, insert and release. Check that the strap is centered and secure before wearing. DIY is not recommended if you lack experience: a quality artisan will complete the change in 10 minutes.

Any strap constructed for 20mm lug width is theoretically compatible. However, aesthetic and functional quality varies considerably. Artisan straps from Milan—in alligator, vegetable-tanned calf, or shell cordovan—offer superior finishing, durability, and patina compared to generic serial production. Verify that the clasp is appropriate for the case diameter (42mm requires a more generous lug attachment) and that the spring bars are of quality (satin stainless steel).

Durability depends on material, tanning, and usage. Natural alligator or vegetable-tanned calf resist an average of 3–5 years of moderate daily use. Frequent aquatic environments, intense perspiration, or prolonged sun exposure shorten leather lifespan. Technical rubber (FKM) is more durable (5–7 years) but aesthetically less refined. Regular maintenance with specific creams extends lifespan. An artisan strap with an 18-month guarantee provides peace of mind should the leather fail prematurely due to a manufacturing defect.
