The Tetra 474 ideally pairs with alligator straps in open grain (natural brown or black), vegetable-tanned calf with pronounced patina, or heavyweight cotton NATO straps. Overly coloured straps are inadvisable: the minimalist design demands earth tones (brown, cognac, grey-taupe, deep black).

To change the strap on a Nomos Glashütte Tetra 474, specialised tools are required: a spring bar tool or quick-release mechanism. Position the tool in the groove between case and lug, press gently to compress the internal clasp, and slide the strap out of the lugs. Insert the new 18mm strap, ensuring it seats flush without lateral play.

The Tetra 474 is fully compatible with quality aftermarket straps, provided they strictly meet the 18mm lug width specification. Nomos produces limited strap variants for this model, making artisanal alligator or vegetable-tanned calf straps often the only option for aesthetic elevation without compromise.

A quality leather strap—alligator or vegetable-tanned calf—typically lasts 3 to 5 years under moderate daily wear. Longevity depends on water exposure, lug horn wear, and maintenance. Alligator straps tend to outlast calf owing to more resistant grain and lower water absorption, though calf develops superior aesthetic patina over time.
