Strap for Metro Neomatik 39

The Nomos Glashütte Metro 1113 features a lug width of 19mm. This dimension, slightly narrower than the standard 20mm, was deliberately chosen by Nomos to maintain the visual proportions of the compact 38.50mm case. A 19mm strap ensures precise fit in the case lugs without lateral play.

For the Metro 1113, we recommend an alligator leather in vegetable tanning, in cognac brown or deep black tones, or European calf with aged patina. These materials enhance the aesthetic restraint of the case without visually competing with the minimalist dial. Avoid straps with excessive texture or vibrant colours: the 1113 demands subtraction, not addition.

Use a spring bar tool to gently lever the internal spring bar catches at the case lug ends. Work from one end of the case simultaneously, lifting the catch. Once the bars are extracted, insert the new 19mm strap through the lugs and re-insert the catches, verifying they are fully seated. Never force the lugs: the Metro has delicate spring bars proportioned to the case.

Technically possible, but not recommended. A 20mm strap creates lateral play in the 19mm lugs, compromising stability and wrist comfort. Over time, this play causes mechanical stress on the lugs. A bespoke 19mm strap from specialised artisans ensures precision and security. The millimetric difference has tangible consequences.

A high-quality alligator or calf strap with vegetable tanning typically lasts 2–4 years with daily use and regular maintenance. Longevity depends on ambient humidity, sun exposure, and frequency of wear. A well-maintained strap (hydrated with natural leather balm, dried after water exposure) can reach 5 years. Technical rubber, by comparison, lasts 3–5 years whilst maintaining consistent structural elasticity.
