Frequently asked questions
What is the lug width of the Nomos Glashütte Club 717?
The Nomos Glashütte Club 717 is equipped with 18mm lugs. This measurement, expressed as the internal width between the spring bars, is the correct parameter for purchasing compatible straps. The measurement is taken from the inner edge to the inner edge of the lug, excluding the buckle and deployant clasp.
What is the best strap for the Club 717?
There is no absolute 'best', but choices should align with intended use. For formal elegance, we recommend vegetable-tanned alligator or burgundy shell cordovan, which enhance the natural patina of the stainless steel case. For daily wear, vegetable-tanned calf or NATO straps in neutral tones ensure comfort and durability. FKM rubber is ideal for those alternating formal and sporty applications.
How do you change the strap on the Club 717?
Changing the strap on the Club 717 requires a simple tool: a spring bar tool or dedicated strap remover. Position the watch with the lugs facing upward, insert the tool into the lug seats, compress gently and extract the spring bar. Repeat on the opposite side. Mounting the new strap follows the reverse procedure: verify alignment before fully seating the spring bar.
Is the Club 717 compatible with quality aftermarket straps?
Yes. Being an extremely popular model, the Club 717 is compatible with excellently-crafted aftermarket straps. Our 18mm straps, made in vegetable-tanned leather with hand-stitched construction, have been tested on this case and respect Nomos's build standards: no variation in planarity, consistent thickness at the lug, leather quality and craftsmanship superior to OEM specifications.
How long does a natural leather strap last on the Club 717?
Lifespan depends on material, tanning method and usage pattern. Vegetable-tanned calf in daily wear maintains structural integrity for 3-4 years; shell cordovan, treated with natural waxes, can exceed 5 years. Alligator, owing to fibre density, achieves 6-7 years. Wear is primarily aesthetic before becoming functional: leather patinas, develops micro-cracks, but remains serviceable. Stitching failure is the real limiting factor.
