The lug width of the Mido Commander M021.431.16.031.00 is 21mm. This dimension is specific to the model and requires dedicated straps. To verify the measurement, remove the spring bar from your watch and measure the distance between the two attachment holes: it must be exactly 21mm, with maximum tolerance of ±0.5mm.

The best strap depends on your use case. For formal elegance, we recommend alligator in black or dark brown with vegetable tanning. For daily wear, vegetable-tanned calf develops patina over time, creating character. For sportiness, a NATO strap in nylon in sand or black maintains the design's military spirit. The ideal choice pairs a 21mm strap with your personal style and frequency of wear.

Procedure: position the watch on a soft surface with the caseback facing down. Locate the spring bars (small metal bars in the lug holes). Using a dedicated tool or gentle implement, push the spring bar to one side, removing the strap from its seat. Repeat on the other end. Insert the new 21mm strap by threading one end into the seat first, then push the spring bar and secure the other end. Verify that both sides are firmly locked in place.

Strongly discouraged. 20mm straps would be unstable in the seats, causing lateral movement and premature wear of the spring bars. 22mm straps would not fit into the lug seats. The 21mm lug width is precisely engineered by Mido's case seats. Always use certified 21mm straps to guarantee safety, aesthetics, and durability.

A quality leather strap (alligator, calf, shell cordovan) with vegetable tanning typically lasts 3-5 years with daily wear, longer with occasional use. Durability depends on: frequency of wear, climatic conditions (humidity accelerates ageing), sun exposure, regular maintenance. A NATO nylon-polyester strap lasts 5-7 years. Rubber has similar longevity to NATO. Leather patina is not wear—it is acquired character.
