The lug width of the Glashütte Original Pano 1-66-06-04-22-05 is 21 mm. This non-standard dimension requires a bespoke strap in order to guarantee proper fit and preserve the proportions intended by Glashütte's manufacture. Do not confuse with common widths (18 mm or 24 mm): the spring bars of the Pano are engineered precisely to accommodate 21 mm.

For the Glashütte Original Pano, we recommend three technically coherent options: genuine alligator (French or Italian tanning) with patina that evolves over time; European calf leather in vegetable tanning, which develops natural ageing; cotton NATO fabric for daily-wear instrument character. Your choice depends on context: formal occasions (alligator), versatility (calf), sporty (NATO or FKM rubber). Each material engages differently with the brushed stainless steel case.

Strap replacement requires: 1) a spring bar tool (metal U-shaped implement); 2) positioning the watch on a soft surface; 3) gently inserting the bifurcated tip of the tool inside the spring bar (lug), compressing it towards the dial; 4) extracting the spring bar from the previous strap; 5) positioning the new strap while maintaining pressure; 6) releasing the spring bar so it settles into the new lug. No, it is not advisable. Standard aftermarket straps come in widths of 18 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm or 24 mm. The Pano requires exactly 21 mm, a dimension that mass-produced inventory does not provide. An undersized strap (20 mm) will leave visible gaps along the lugs; an oversized strap (22 mm) will force abnormal pressure on the spring bar, risking damage. Bespoke manufacture, constructed to the case's specifications, is the only solution that preserves design integrity.

A quality leather strap (alligator, vegetable-tanned calf) lasts approximately 3–5 years with daily use, up to 7–10 years with occasional wear. Ageing is a positive aesthetic process: patina, creasing, and wear marks narrate the watch's history. Factors that reduce longevity: prolonged exposure to fresh or saltwater (calf is more vulnerable than alligator), contact with unwashed acidic sweat, repeated creasing in the same location. Minimal maintenance—regular dusting, conditioning 2–3 times yearly with specialist products—significantly extends strap life.
