The lug width of the Citizen Marvel CA0429-53W is exactly 23 millimetres. This measurement is precise and non-negotiable: any compatible strap must feature exactly 23mm thickness at the lug attachment area to ensure proper fit and absence of play.

The ideal strap depends on intended use. For formal settings, vegetable-tanned calf leather in dark brown or black satin finish offers balance between elegance and durability. For daily and sports wear, a NATO strap in dense Cordura canvas—grey or black—remains the most robust solution. Vulcanised rubber is essential for salt water or extreme humidity environments.

Strap replacement requires extraction of the springbars using a precision spring bar tool. Position the watch on a stable surface, insert the tool under the springbar whilst compressing it inward, extract the springbar completely. Repeat on the opposite lug. Install the new strap by reversing the procedure: insert the springbar into both the strap and case holes, verify secure locking.

A 23mm strap is compatible only with watches featuring 23-millimetre lugs. It is not compatible with 20mm, 22mm, or 24mm lugs. Before purchasing, measure your case by verifying the distance between the two lugs: a tolerance of 0.5mm may cause fit issues.

Longevity depends on material and usage patterns. Vegetable-tanned calf presents durability of 3–5 years with daily wear in dry environments. Alligator, if properly maintained, extends lifespan to 5–7 years. Vulcanised rubber remains essentially unalterable.
