The process is straightforward: you need a spring bar tool or two wooden toothpicks. Position the tip in the opening of the spring bar from the underside of the lug, compressing gently until the bar retracts. The old strap comes off easily. Repeat on the other side. Then insert the new strap by aligning the holes with the bars, ensuring the spring bar clicks into place correctly.

Longevity depends on the material and usage. A high-quality artisanal alligator strap, with vegetable tanning, maintains structural integrity for 3-5 years of moderate daily use. Vegetable-tanned calf leather has similar durability, but develops a natural ageing patina that enhances its appeal. With proper care (avoiding prolonged water exposure, storing in a dry environment), longevity extends further. An FKM rubber strap retains elasticity for approximately 2-3 years.
