The lug width is precisely 26mm, measured from inside to inside of the mounting slots where the strap attaches. This specification is exclusive to 51mm Emergency models and is not interchangeable with other Breitling references. Always verify compatibility using a digital calliper, measuring twice to ensure accuracy.

Selection depends on intended use. For formal settings: alligator or aged shell cordovan. For maritime and outdoor operations: military-grade nylon NATO or butadiene rubber. For civilian flight crews: vegetable-tanned alligator. Each material provides distinct advantages regarding aesthetics, resistance, and longevity specific to operational environments.

The Breitling Emergency features a standard split-pin system. Remove the existing passants by unscrewing the lateral pin bar using a specialised tool, then extract the current strap from the lugs. Insert the new strap through both lug holes, reinsert the pin bar, and ensure it locks securely. For field operations, carry a titanium replacement bar for material compatibility.

Any strap with a 26mm lug width is mechanically compatible. However, we recommend designs engineered for oversized cases: thickness must be 3.5–4.5mm with reinforced passants to sustain the titanium case's weight. Premium leather typically lasts 18–24 months with regular wear on a heavy 51mm titanium case. Shell cordovan extends to 3 years. Critical factors: ambient humidity, perspiration, direct sunlight exposure. Vegetable-tanned leather ages naturally; with monthly maintenance (cleaning and conditioning), you can extend lifespan by an additional 6–12 months.
