Frequently asked questions

What is the lug width of the Baume & Mercier Capeland 10005?

The lug width of the Capeland 10005 is 20mm. This dimension is determined by the case lug geometry and remains consistent across all examples of this series. Always verify the watch reference (10005, MOA10005, or M0A10005) to confirm compatibility before purchase.

Which strap is best suited for the Baume & Mercier Capeland 10005?

For the Capeland 10005, we recommend vegetable-tanned leather or alligator with structured grain that respects the balance between sporty and refined aesthetics. Taupe or burgundy alligator amplifies the sport-elegant attitude, whilst aged calf leather allows natural patina development. For intensive use, a rubber strap with satin-finish lugs maintains sportiness without compromise.

How do you change a watch strap with 20mm lugs?

Position the watch with the case facing upward. Locate the spring bars—small metal rods that slide laterally within the lugs. Using an appropriate tool (dedicated lever or flathead screwdriver tip), gently press one spring bar downward to extract the strap. Repeat on the opposite side. Insert the new strap, aligning it with the lug seat and pushing until the spring bar clicks into place. Verify that the strap is secured on both sides.

Can I use an aftermarket strap on the Capeland 10005?

Yes. Any strap with 20mm lug width is compatible, regardless of manufacturer. Milano Straps' 20mm straps guarantee artisanal quality, thickness control and custom craftsmanship. The Casati Milano atelier also allows personalisation of lugs, buckles and stitching according to your preferences.

How long does a leather watch strap last?

A quality leather strap with vegetable tanning lasts on average 3-5 years with moderate daily use. Factors such as humidity, direct sun exposure and cleaning frequency influence longevity. Alligator and shell cordovan develop aesthetic patina and resist longer. NATO-style textile straps exceed 7-10 years if properly maintained.
