I like stingray, but how does it really work with water? Can I wear it every day even if I go to the gym?
Stingray is not like leather — it doesn’t need moisturising creams and handles daily use well. What you need to avoid is stagnant moisture: a quick shower is fine, soaking is not. After training, dry your wrist and the strap with a cloth. The structure of stingray skin is rigid on the surface but flexible underneath, so it withstands intensive use without issues.
Two green stingray straps I’m ordering from you now — will they be similar or completely different?
They’ll be recognisably from the same line, but not identical. Every stingray skin is unique: the colour variation between one specimen and another is intrinsic to the material, not a production flaw. If you want two pieces that match perfectly, stingray is not the right choice. If instead you appreciate that your strap is unrepeatable, then it’s exactly what you’re looking for.
The granular surface — that texture with the hexagons — does it wear away over time or stay as it is?
That texture is the natural structure of stingray skin, preserved during tanning. It won’t disappear. What happens is that as it ages, the colour may evolve slightly and the skin develops a patina of use, but the geometry of the surface remains. It’s part of the character of the material.
22mm lug width — which watch do I put it on? How do I know if it’s compatible with mine?
The lug width is 22 millimetres. If your watch has the lugs (the attachment points where you put the strap) spaced 22mm apart, it’s compatible. We don’t deal in brand exclusivity here — 22 is one of the main calibres on the market, so it covers quite a lot. If you don’t know your size, measure the distance between the two lugs on your watch: that’s the number you need.
What does it mean that stingray has ‘surface rigidity and structural flexibility’? Practically, how does it feel on the wrist?
It means the skin is naturally leathery on the surface — that hexagonal texture is robust — but the underlying structure remains flexible. On the wrist you’ll feel it more rigid than soft calf, it has body, it maintains its bearing. It’s not flaccid, it doesn’t bend like fabric. That firmness is what keeps it in shape and protects it from daily use.
