Handmade in Italy Recycled polyester

Recycled polyester is not a compromise. It is a precise technical choice: wear-resistant, impervious to moisture, and color-stable over time. This NATO strap is made from 100% recycled material processed in Italy, where control over the production process remains artisanal even when the material is industrial.

Grey is neutral, capable. The orange edges define its character — a chromatic detail that doesn't seek approval, it finds it. On the wrist, it works with tool watches as well as everyday casuals: the strap doesn't demand a context, it adapts.

The 316L steel buckle and rings guarantee hold and corrosion resistance over time, without failure. The 1.5mm thickness keeps the profile low under the dial, without bulk.

WHAT WE DID

Milano Straps, always sensitive to the issue of sustainability and the ways in which a luxury product should be produced and distributed, has decided, in its small way, to contribute to the growth of an Eco-Luxury Positive economy.

Recently launched, the MSLabStraps line is a new series of eco-friendly NATO fabric straps made by recycling post-consumer plastic bottles collected in Northern Italy.

From one recycled plastic bottle, two MSLabStraps NATO straps are made.

Through a mechanical, non-chemical recycling process that is 100% Made in Italy certified throughout its fully traceable supply chain, the plastic from the bottles is shredded and transformed into high-quality, high-performance recycled polyester yarns for textile use.

The production of 1 kg of Newlife®, for the same quantity of virgin polymer, allows a reduction in energy consumption of 60%, CO2 emissions of 32%, and water consumption of 94%.

Domande Frequenti

But if it’s recycled, how long does it really last? Won’t I find myself replacing it after two summers?

No. The recycled polyester here is not an aesthetic compromise — it’s a technical choice. This material is wear-resistant and completely indifferent to moisture, which means no degradation from sweat, no mould, no discolouration. Colours remain stable over time. The buckle and rings are 316L stainless steel, the kind that does not corrode. The 1.5mm thickness holds everything together without weak points. It’s a strap that performs as well as a new synthetic nylon one — only it starts from recycled material, crafted by hand here in Italy.

These orange edges — I like the grey, but the orange bothers me a bit. Can I find different versions?

This is the version with orange edges. It’s a detail that characterises the piece — it is not an optional element, nor something you can remove. If the edge colour does not convince you straight away, my advice is to see it in person: the grey-orange contrast on the wrist often reads differently than it appears in photographs. That said, if you are looking for a grey NATO without that chromatic detail, we have other proposals within the military line.

Is the 1.5mm thickness really as low as you say, or is it just marketing? With certain watches, doesn’t it create movement issues under the dial?

No, it is concrete. 1.5mm means the strap passes under the dial without lifting the case from the wrist — it does not create the rigidity you would feel with thicker NATOs. It works with tool watches just as well as with everyday casual pieces. The low profile is precisely the advantage: the strap does not get in the way, it adapts to wrist movement naturally.

Is it really produced in Italy? I mean, is the recycled polyester worked here or just packaged?

The recycled polyester is worked here in Italy. Control over the production process remains artisanal even when the material is industrial — it is not a chain that hands it off to an external workshop without oversight. It is a distinction that matters if you care about details.

With 20mm lug width, which watches does it fit? If mine has 22mm lugs, can I still mount it?

The declared lug width is 20mm. If your watch has 22mm lugs, technically it is not compatible — the watch lugs would not fit into the strap rings. If you have a watch with different lugs, we have other proposals within the NATO line with different specifications. Best to verify before ordering.
