There's a story behind every hole in this strap. The Military strap was born in the laboratories of the British Ministry of Defense, cataloged with a stock number that became its first name. Soldiers requested it by filling out form G1098 — hence, the nickname G10, still in use among enthusiasts.

The design was military in the purest sense: no ornamentation, no concessions to aesthetics for their own sake. Only function. The one-piece design wraps around the wrist, connecting separately to each spring bar: if one fails, the strap remains in place. The watch doesn't fall off. It's not a detail — it's the reason it exists.

In burgundy Italian calfskin, this G10 carries something that overly refined straps don't: understated character. The color pairs effortlessly, and the leather molds to the wrist over time. On the smaller loop, the excess strap folds and tucks in — an elegant, unintentionally stylistic solution. For larger wrists, the strap naturally reaches the second loop. One size, fits all.

Sean Connery wore it in Goldfinger on a Submariner. Nothing else was needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the fail-safe system of the one-piece design work and why is it different from a traditional NATO?

The military G10 strap is a single piece of leather that attaches separately to each spring bar, passing under the case. If one spring bar breaks or comes loose, the strap remains anchored to the other — the watch won’t fall from your wrist. The traditional NATO operates on the same principle, but the G10 is the original military version, with a thinner profile (1mm) and no decorative stitching.

Does the burgundy hold up well over time or does it tend to fade with daily use?

Italian calf leather at 1mm thickness is thin and flexible — it absorbs movement, adapts to your wrist, and develops its own patina. The burgundy tends to lighten in flex zones with prolonged use, acquiring shades that make every strap unique. Those who prefer uniform color over time can treat it periodically with a colorless leather conditioner.

At 255mm in length, does it fit very large or very small wrists?

It is the defining feature of the military design: adjustment is theoretically infinite, because the holes are distributed along the entire length. On a small wrist, the excess strap folds under the keeper — a practical solution that has, not by chance, become aesthetic. On a large wrist, the strap ends naturally near the second keeper. In both cases, the fit is secure.

Does this burgundy strap work on a Rolex Submariner with 20mm lugs?

Yes, the Submariner is exactly the original context for this strap — it is not marketing nostalgia, it is documented history. The 20mm width fits into the Sub lugs without adapters. The burgundy creates a calibrated contrast with steel cases and dark dials, more discreet than navy, less predictable than black.
