MILAN STRAPS · SELECTION

The right leather isn't chosen by chance. It's recognized.

Selection isn’t a step — it’s a decision. Before cutting, I measure the thickness, check the grain, flex the leather in my hands. Two pieces from the same batch can respond differently. I see that difference beforehand. The strap carries it for twenty years.

Selection is not a material. It's the moment I decide which piece of leather to cut — and which to discard. Two pieces from the same calf, from the same batch, can react differently to dye. Thickness must be measured where it counts: the holes, the stitching, the ends.

For exotic leathers, the choice is made even before picking up the knife. The belly area of an alligator has different scales than the back. The center of a stingray is different from the edges. Python varies along its entire length. This stage separates a strap that lasts twenty years from one that doesn't last two.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you measure leather thickness before cutting the strap?

With a micrometer, in the areas that will bear the most stress: the holes, the stitching, the ends. Two pieces from the same lot can have different thicknesses. Measurement happens before cutting, not after. Available from 18 to 22mm.

How does an atelier appointment for a custom strap work?

At Via XX Settembre 15, in Milan, leather is chosen together. On the watch, with the watch in front of you. No catalog, no screen. Only the right piece for your strap. To book an appointment, write on WhatsApp.

What do you evaluate when choosing a leather piece for a strap?

Grain uniformity, absence of scars, flex response, thickness measured with a micrometer in critical areas. For a strap in 18, 20 or 22mm, two pieces from the same lot can behave differently. Selection happens before cutting.

Which watches pair with an 18mm or 20mm strap?

18mm: Breitling Superocean ref. A17316D21A1S1, Franck Muller Casablanca ref. 5850. 20mm: Omega Constellation ref. 1566.56.00. The lug width is what decides everything — miss by 1mm and the strap won't fit.

Is selection a leather or a process of choosing leather?

Selection is a process, not a material. It's the moment when I choose the specific leather piece to cut — evaluating grain uniformity, absence of natural marks, and thickness measured by micrometer. It applies to every size: 18, 20, 22mm. Everything else depends on this choice.

In which sizes are straps made with selection leather available?

18, 20 and 22mm. The size depends on the watch — every strap is cut from the leather piece selected for that specific lug width.
