The Overseas 5500V/000M-B074, seen from the bench

The Overseas Chronograph, introduced in 1996 and reimagined in 2016, represents Vacheron Constantin's response to luxury sports watchmaking. The case features a hexagonal bezel and integrated bracelet in stainless steel and pink gold. The watch exemplifies fluid engineering where each link integrates seamlessly with the case geometry.

Frequently asked questions

Can a standard strap be fitted to the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 5500V/000M-B074?

No. The bracelet is integrated directly into the case: there are no traditional lugs to attach a standard strap. The only viable option is to have a strap made to measure, physically modelled on the watch. That is what I do in the atelier.

How does the bespoke strap service work for this model?

I work through Casati Milano, by appointment only, at Via XX Settembre 15 in Milan. I bring the watch to the bench and take the measurements directly from the case, millimetre by millimetre. There is no template: every strap is born from that specific piece.

Which leather do I recommend for the Overseas in pink gold and stainless steel?

I recommend aged Barenia. It is a leather that carries time with dignity, developing a warm patina that works well alongside the pink gold without overpowering it. For a watch that lives between formal and sporting, it is the choice that holds up best in both contexts.

How long does a well-made leather strap last?

With quality leather and proper construction, I count on five to eight years of daily use. Care makes all the difference: a pass of neutral cream every few months and avoiding systematic exposure to water will significantly extend the strap's life. Barenia, in particular, ages by improving — not by deteriorating.

The Overseas was born as a sports watch — does a leather strap really make sense on it?

The Overseas was introduced in 1996 as Vacheron Constantin's answer to sporting watchmaking, but its character has always been hybrid — never purely sport, never purely elegant. I have seen many Overseas watches worn beautifully on leather straps even in formal settings. The pink gold and steel case lends itself naturally to this dual reading.
