To change the strap, you will need a spring bar tool (a specialised instrument for removing pins). Position the flat end of the tool under the lug pin and apply gentle outward pressure until the pin is released from its housing. Remove the previous strap, align the new strap's holes with the pins, and click the pin into position. It is advisable to have a professional perform this operation if you lack experience.

The lifespan of a leather strap depends on the tanning method and usage. A vegetable-tanned calf leather of watchmaking quality typically lasts 3–5 years with moderate daily use, developing appealing patina over time. Alligator and shell cordovan are more resilient (5–8 years) due to the structural density of the skin.
