Strap for Sistem Navy

The lug width of the Swatch Sistem 51 YIS409 is 20 millimetres. This is a specific measurement, not a standardised size like 22mm or 18mm, determined by the construction geometry of the 42mm case. To measure the lug width accurately, place a ruler on the case at the height where the strap attaches, measuring the distance between the two lugs: the result must be exactly 20mm to ensure perfect fit without play or visual imbalance.

The ideal strap depends on intended use and desired style. For formal elegance, we recommend dark alligator with vegetable tanning or cognac-coloured calf with steel deployante, which enhance the case's rational design by contrasting it with the nobility of leather. For sporting contexts, a heavy cotton NATO in grey or navy blue maintains the Sistem51's aesthetic coherence, whilst rubber is the extreme choice for high-humidity environments or heavy wear. All straps must be cut to 20mm width to guarantee full compatibility.

Changing the YIS409 strap is a straightforward operation requiring no specialised tools. Use a spring bar tool or a thin, rounded object such as a pocket knife. Position the watch with the lug facing upwards, insert the tool into the small slot beneath the spring pin and push gently downward: the pin will retract, allowing disengagement. Repeat on both sides. Insert the new 20mm strap by sliding the pins through the lugs until they click into place. Verify that the strap is aligned and free from any play.
