The Swatch Sistem 51 SUTR401 is fitted with a standard 20-millimetre lug width. This measurement represents the nominal distance between the lateral pins and determines compatibility with aftermarket straps. Although the visual distance between the lugs is approximately 18-19 millimetres, the functional lug width of 20 millimetres is the specification certified by Swatch and must be respected when replacing the strap.

The choice depends on intended use and aesthetic preference. For daily wear with minimal maintenance, NATO straps in nylon represent a practical solution. For those preferring superior comfort and aesthetic evolution over time, vegetable-tanned calf leather is ideal. For environments exposed to humidity or temperature fluctuations, FKM (Viton) rubber offers maximum resistance. The strap is removed by extracting the lateral pins that suspend it between the case lugs. Use a dedicated tool (spring bar tool) to apply calibrated pressure on the pins, avoiding forceful manipulation that could damage the mechanism. Once the pins are released, the old strap slides away. For installation of the new 20-millimetre strap, position it alongside the lugs, insert the lateral pins aligning them perpendicularly, and press until the locking click is felt. The procedure takes less than two minutes if executed with care.
