For a vintage-working philosophy, vegetable-tanned calf in dark chocolate or dark burgundy allows the 126900 to express its nature as a working instrument. To change the strap, position the watch vertically with the lugs pointing upwards. Using a spring bar tool, insert the flat end into the lateral spaces of the lug to compress the internal springs. Once the springs are lifted, the pin will slide out easily. Repeat for the other lug. To install the new strap, insert the pin into the strap lug and compressed spring, then release the spring gradually. Verify that the strap is aligned uniformly on both sides before fully tightening.

Any strap with a 20 mm lug width is technically compatible with the 126900. However, technical compatibility alone is insufficient: the final quality, durability and aesthetics depend entirely on supplier choice. Artisanal leather straps—Niloticus alligator, vegetable-tanned calf, shell cordovan—guarantee superior results compared to mass-produced alternatives. The lifespan of a leather strap depends on material quality, frequency of use and maintenance. A superior-quality alligator strap subjected to moderate use typically lasts 5–7 years before displaying significant wear such as cracking or thinning. Vegetable-tanned calf, more susceptible to visible ageing, deteriorates more rapidly (3–5 years of daily wear) but develops the patina that characterizes true instruments. Leather straps require periodic maintenance: protection from excess moisture, gentle cleaning and occasional conditioning with appropriate products. Part-time use extends lifespan beyond 10 years.
