Strap for Hyperchrome 36

The Rado HyperChrome R32255152 is fitted with a 20-millimetre lug width. This measurement refers to the distance between the inner walls of the attachment lug on the case. To verify it, place a ruler within the concavity where the strap or bracelet inserts, measuring perpendicular to the lug length. An incorrectly sized strap will not anchor securely to the lugs, compromising both the aesthetic appearance and safety of the watch.

Your strap choice should complement the dual nature of the case: ceramic and stainless steel. We recommend an alligator strap with vegetable tanning, whose small, regular grain amplifies the play of light on the ceramic. Excellent alternatives include brushed calf leather in charcoal grey, a thick-canvas NATO strap in natural beige for versatility, or textured FKM rubber for humid environments. The objective is to select materials that enhance the material contrast, rather than conceal it.

Strap replacement requires specialised tools: a spring bar tool (a dedicated lever) to compress the internal spring within the lug. Support the watch with your thumb beneath the case, insert the tool tip into the spring recess inside the lug, compress gently whilst simultaneously withdrawing the spring bar pin. Repeat from the opposite side. Insert the new 20mm strap by aligning the holes with the spring bar pins, compress and release. Avoid excessive twisting on the pins to prevent damage.

Any strap with a 20-millimetre lug width is mechanically compatible. Aesthetic compatibility depends on material selection. A leather strap's durability depends on tanning method, usage and maintenance. A quality vegetable-tanned leather strap, with thickness 1.4–1.5mm, lasts approximately 3–5 years with daily wear. Vegetable leather develops patina and becomes shaped to your wrist over time, darkening progressively. To extend lifespan, avoid prolonged water exposure, apply leather conditioner every 6–8 months, and store the strap away from direct sunlight. Alligator or shell cordovan straps, being more robust leathers, can last 5–7 years with proper care.
