Strap for Chronograph 5070

The Patek Philippe 5070P-001 features a lug width of 19mm. This measurement represents the free space between the lugs of the case and determines compatibility with aftermarket straps. To verify the measurement with precision, position a calliper perpendicular to the lugs and measure the internal space: the result must be 19mm. This standardisation allows for a wide selection of high-quality artisanal straps.

For a platinum chronograph such as the 5070P-001, alligator remains the most refined solution from both aesthetic and constructive standpoints. The regular diamond-shaped texture creates an elegant visual contrast with the platinum-toned case. Alternatively, vegetable-tanned calf leather offers superior maintainability and a patina that develops over time, whilst shell cordovan represents an extraordinary compromise between moisture resistance and initial suppleness. Rubber straps are not recommended for this case.

Changing the strap requires the use of a specific tool (spring bar tool) to compress the spring-loaded pins positioned inside the lugs. Position the watch with the lug facing upwards, insert the tool into the spring bar hole and compress gently towards the centre of the case to extract the pin. Repeat the operation on the second pin. To insert the new strap, align it with the lugs and slide the pins into the seats (the movement should be fluid without forcing). For the 5070P, assistance from a specialised watchmaker is recommended to avoid damage to the platinum case.

Any strap with a 19mm lug width is technically compatible with the 5070P-001. However, to guarantee construction quality and longevity, we recommend exclusively artisanal straps made from noble leathers (alligator, vegetable-tanned calf, shell cordovan) and constructed with rigorous tolerances. Shell cordovan, owing to its structural resilience, can reach 12-18 years. Regular maintenance (cleaning with a soft cloth, conditioning with specific products) significantly extends useful life.
