Strap changes are performed using spring bars—small elastic bars positioned within the lugs. Using a dedicated tool (spring bar tool), you gently compress the bar to free one end of the worn strap and extract it. Fitting a new strap follows the reverse procedure: align the 18mm width, insert the spring bar into the lug, and verify secure seating.

Whilst Nomos produces original straps, the aftermarket for quality options is substantial: artisanal alligator, shell cordovan, vulcanised FKM rubber, and curated NATO straps. The critical requirement is that the width is genuinely 18mm and the spring bars are intact.

Leather strap durability depends on material type and wearing frequency. A vegetable-tanned alligator of premium quality, worn daily, typically lasts 5–7 years. Shell cordovan, owing to its natural density, can reach 8–10 years. Critical factors include humidity exposure, perspiration, and thermal variation. Rotating between multiple straps significantly extends the operational life of each.
