Strap replacement requires a spring bar tool (also called a strap changer). Position the watch on a soft surface, insert the tool's tip into the spring bar slot to compress it, and gently lift the strap end. Once the lug is freed, remove the old strap and insert the new one, compressing the spring bar again until it clicks into place. This procedure is reversible and does not damage the case.

Leather strap longevity depends on tanning quality and usage intensity. A high-quality alligator or shell cordovan strap, vegetable-tanned, lasts 3-5 years with daily wear whilst developing a desirable patina. Factors such as sweat exposure, water contact, and UV radiation accelerate ageing.
