The Longines La Grande Classique L4.512.4.81.2 features a lug width of 16 millimetres. This uncommon width reflects the compact proportions of the 29mm ladies' model. To verify the lug width, place the watch flat on a surface and measure the external distance between the metal pins protruding from the case. Precision is critical: even a 0.5mm tolerance will generate lateral play or fitting difficulties.

The best strap depends on intended use. For formal elegance, we recommend dark alligator with vegetable tanning: the natural grain perfectly complements the case's essential lines. For daily versatility, superior quality calf leather in black, dark brown or burgundy offers practicality and patina that develops over time. For dynamism, silk or high-density cotton NATO in sober tones (navy, grey) allows rapid changes. Rubber remains ideal if you consider the watch as a daily instrument.

To change the strap, obtain a spring bar tool or consult a watchmaker. Position the watch with the case facing upward and gently lever the metal spring (spring bar) supporting the lug, moving the pin towards the case exterior. The spring bar will retract, freeing the lug from the first side. Repeat for the second side. When installing the new 16mm strap, ensure the spring bars are correctly positioned on both sides and that no excess leather protrudes from the case joints.
