The lug width of the Longines DolceVita L5.255.0.87.2 is precisely 15 millimetres. This is a non-standard dimension exclusive to the rectangular DolceVita models. To verify it accurately, measure the internal distance between the two lugs of the case: it must be exactly 15mm. Longines selected this reduced width to maintain the visual balance between the slim case and the strap.

For the DolceVita L5.255.0.87.2, we recommend a strap in black or dark brown alligator. The regular texture of crocodile leather echoes the linear geometry of the case, maintaining the discretion this model demands. Alternatively, calf leather with fine grain (smooth or light grain) is excellent for those preferring a more versatile hide. For casual days, a burgundy shell cordovan strap with vegetable tanning offers exceptional visual depth and legendary longevity.

The strap is changed using a dedicated tool (spring bar tool) to remove the tension springs (spring bars) from the case lugs. Gently press inward to release one end of the spring, then remove the old strap. Insert the new strap by aligning the lug holes with the case holes, then secure the springs at both ends. The procedure requires no particular technical skill, though you may prefer to entrust the task to a trusted jeweller or our Casati Milano atelier.

Shell cordovan, thanks to its fibrous structure, can exceed 7-10 years of use whilst developing an increasingly fascinating patina. Calf is more delicate and lasts approximately 2-3 years under intensive use. Rotating multiple straps (by owning several models of the same lug width) significantly extends the life of each one.
