Any strap purchased must explicitly state 20mm compatibility to ensure correct spring bar seating.

Vegetable-tanned woven alligator leather represents the superior aesthetic and functional choice for this model. The characteristic grain of the reptile hide offers tactile contrast against the metal case surfaces, while vegetable tanning develops a patina over time that mirrors the evolving character of the bronze-ite. A prestigious alternative is Japanese shell cordovan, which adds material density and natural luster. For tactical use, woven NATO fabric remains the authentic functional choice.

Strap replacement on the IWC3879-02 is performed by extracting the lateral spring bars (small spring-loaded pins) positioned at the base of the lugs. Use a dedicated tool (spring bar tool or Teflon wedges) to gently lift the spring bar until the old strap is freed. Position the new 20mm strap at the lug shoulders, insert the spring bar into the lower hole, then press until audible engagement. Verify that both spring bar ends are correctly seated before wearing the watch.

All straps with 20mm lug width are theoretically compatible with the IWC3879-02. Vegetable tanning, while visibly aging, improves over time by developing patina. Prolonged exposure to sweat, water, and UV rays accelerates deterioration. Proper maintenance (periodic cleaning, storage in a dry environment) significantly extends strap life beyond these average estimates.
