Frequently asked questions

What is the lug width of the IWC Pilot IW3706-28?

The lug width (ansa measurement) of the IWC Pilot IW3706-28 is 20 millimetres. This width is the international standard for aviation and pilot-grade watches, and requires straps manufactured to exact 20mm specifications to ensure precise and secure attachment to the case lugs.

Which strap is most suitable for the IWC Pilot IW3706-28?

For the IW3706-28, we recommend a naturally tanned alligator strap, which combines elegance with aviation-grade robustness. Alternatively, vegetable-tanned calf leather offers superior flexibility and ages with character. For sports contexts, a nylon NATO or vulcanised rubber maintains the watch's instrumental aesthetic.

How do you change the strap on this IWC model?

The strap is changed by releasing the spring bars from the sides of the case, an operation requiring a dedicated spring bar removal tool to avoid damage. The procedure is fully reversible and can be performed at home or by a specialised atelier such as Casati Milano, which also offers bespoke sizing adjustments.

Is an aftermarket strap compatible with the IWC Pilot IW3706-28?

Yes, provided it is manufactured to 20mm lug width specifications. Quality aftermarket straps offer complete compatibility with the case lugs. Milano Straps offers a curated selection of 20mm straps customisable in length, initials and stitch colour upon request.

How long does a leather strap last on this watch?

Durability depends on material and usage patterns. Quality alligator or shell cordovan lasts 5-7 years with regular wear; vegetable-tanned calf 3-5 years. Leather breathability, sun exposure and humidity accelerate ageing. An artisanal strap with 18-month warranty provides initial protection, whilst periodic maintenance (cleaning, vegetable balms) substantially extends service life.

The next step

The right strap isn't chosen. It is built, together.

From the atelier appointment to delivery, every step is made for those who know that things done well take time. Rare leathers, one piece at a time, eighteen months of warranty.
