How do I change the strap on a Glashütte Original Seventies?
To change the strap, you must remove the spring bars connecting the strap to the case. Use a dedicated spring bar remover tool to press the small lateral metal discs on the bars, thereby freeing the old strap. Insert the new strap by aligning its attachment points with the case lugs, then reinsert the spring bars. Verify that the strap is properly secured before wearing. If inexperienced, entrust the task to a specialised jeweller or atelier.
How long does a leather strap last on a watch like the Seventies?
Durability depends on intensity of use, tanning method and materials. An alligator or shell cordovan strap with vegetable tanning, properly maintained, lasts 4–7 years with regular daily wear. Calf leather, more delicate, typically resists 3–5 years. FKM rubber vulcanised at low temperature offers greater resilience, especially to moisture.
