The lug width is 22mm. This is measured between the two spring bars that anchor the strap to the case lugs. You can verify it by removing your current strap and measuring with a calliper the distance between the two holes on the case: it must be exactly 22mm.

We recommend vegetable-tanned leather straps from premium tanneries (particularly Tuscan sources), especially in tobacco brown or black. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a unique patina over time that dialogues perfectly with the brushed steel case. Alternatively, alligator offers a more formal choice, while NATO fabric straps are ideal for manual work environments or water sports.

The strap is anchored to the case by two elastic spring bars located at the lugs. Use a dedicated spring bar tool or a small flat screwdriver to gently compress the pin from below, then carefully slide out the old strap. Insert the holes of the new strap into the same slots and release the pin: you will feel a slight click when it repositions. Repeat for the other side.

Not necessarily. Original Certina straps are produced in series according to industrial standards. Our artisanal straps, crafted in small batches with selected leather from Tuscan tanneries using vegetable tanning, often offer superior material quality: the leather ages naturally, the deployante buckle is brushed steel, and each piece has unique patina and grain characteristics. The trade-off is price, which reflects the handcrafted work.

With ordinary maintenance (avoid prolonged moisture, do not expose to intense heat, allow to dry naturally), a premium vegetable-tanned strap lasts 3–5 years. Vegetable-tanned leather is more delicate than industrial chrome leather, but develops a fascinating patina. If you use the watch daily in wet environments, consider instead a NATO or rubber strap, which resist indefinitely.
