I have seen Barenia leather work well for those who prefer something more understated, but I remain convinced that alligator is the most coherent choice for the character of this watch.

With quality leather and basic care, five to eight years of daily wear is easily achievable. Leather should not be feared: condition it two or three times a year with a neutral product and keep it away from prolonged exposure to water. Over time it develops a personal patina that reflects the person wearing it — I do not call that wear, I call it acquired character.

In 1972 Gérald Genta did something unconventional: he took steel — a working material — and brought it into high watchmaking, then applied the same logic to gold. The exposed hexagonal screws are not decoration: they are structure, the honest language of someone who hides nothing.
